Overview

The Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) is one of the six principal organs of the United Nations, responsible for promoting international economic and social cooperation and development. Established in 1945, ECOSOC coordinates the work of UN specialized agencies, commissions, and programs related to issues like health, education, human rights, and sustainable development. It serves as a central forum for discussing global economic, social, and environmental challenges and for formulating policy recommendations. ECOSOC works to foster inclusive dialogue among governments, NGOs, and other stakeholders, playing a key role in advancing the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and global progress.
